Google Rolls Out New Theft Protection Features for Android

Google has started rolling out a suite of theft protection features for Android devices, enhancing security and providing peace of mind for users. These features, announced at Google I/O 2024, are now becoming available globally.

Key Features

  1. Theft Detection Lock: This feature uses device sensors, Wi-Fi, and smart device connections to detect if someone abruptly takes your phone. If such an event is detected, the device’s screen will lock automatically to prevent unauthorized access.
  2. Offline Device Lock: If someone steals your phone and turns off the internet to prevent location tracking, this feature will lock your device.
  3. Remote Lock: You can remotely lock your device by visiting android.com/lock, providing your phone number, and completing a security challenge.
